The Promise LAN: Part 1 4m 10s
00:15
One of the super convenient features of the TouchMix is the ability to control the mixer wirelessly
00:21
using an iOS or Android device to either mix away from the console itself,
00:26
wirelessly set monitor mixes or add a second  control screen to the console.
00:32
You can use the wireless dongle that comes with the TouchMix-8 and -16 for short range wireless access,
00:39
but when you are running your TouchMix in large spaces with big crowds, you are bound to experience interference
00:46
from other wi-fi in the room; like cell phone interference, competing radio frequencies,
00:53
you name it.
00:54
In these cases, we always recommend using an external wi-fi router instead.
01:00
In this video we will show you how to configure easily  your TouchMix with your new third party router.
01:06
Here’s what you need to get started and here’s Jason to tell you more.
01:13
Your TouchMix, a standard Wi-Fi router and an Ethernet cable.
01:17
If you are using a TouchMix 8 or 16, you’ll also need a USB-to-Ethernet adapter
01:21
to bridge the Ethernet cable to the available USB port.
01:24
As these models do not have an active Ethernet port.
01:27
You can find a list of recommended adapters on the QSC website.
01:30
Make sure to unplug that dongle before you begin.
01:33
I'll be doing this demonstration on the TouchMix-30 Pro, which has a built-in Ethernet port.
01:38
First, open up your new router.
01:40
Many routers will work properly right out of the box.
01:43
If your route requires initial setup, proceed according to the manufacturers directions.
01:48
A lot of the Wi-Fi problems reported by TouchMix users are related to non-standard or custom configurations of the router.
01:55
Unless you a networking wizard, which I am definitely not,
01:58
we strongly recommend that you leave your router settings at their default values.
02:02
And, if you're using an existing Wi-Fi router that's not fresh-out-of-the-box, it's best to reset that router.
02:07
Just to make sure you have cleared any unsavory custom settings.
02:10
Once you've completely unpackaged your router,
02:12
plug it in. And power it on.
02:15
Once it's powered up, plug your Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports in your router.
02:19
And connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the TouchMix.
02:22
Do not.
02:23
I repeat- Do not use the internet or network port.
02:26
This port is expecting a connection from a modem to gain access to the internet.
02:30
That's not what we're doing here.
02:32
This is the number one problem we solve in TouchMix support land.
02:34
So don't do it.
02:36
For our connection all we need is simple device-to-device communication.
02:40
Now, plug in and power up your TouchMix-30.
02:43
Once the mixer has fully powered up
02:45
Press the Menu button and go to "Network Setup".
02:48
Select "Wired" for the network type.
02:51
And "Auto IP Address" for the wired network setting.
02:53
Then press "Apply".
02:55
Once a successful connection has been established with the router,
02:58
You will get a prompt that says "Wired Ethernet connection operational".
03:02
And the connection status on the network setup screen should read "Connected".
03:06
So far, so good?
03:07
Now, on your iOS or Android device open the Wi-Fi settings and connect to your router.
03:11
From the factory most Wi-Fi routers will have a unique network name and password,
03:15
which you can usually find either on a sticker on the router itself
03:18
Or, in the user manual.
03:20
Once connected to the router on the device, launch the QSC TouchMix app.
03:24
If the app shows disconnected in red, in the upper right hand corner,
03:28
press the Menu button,
03:29
go to "Network"
03:30
and select your mixer from the found mixers list and press "Select".
03:34
The last step is to give your device remote access permission.
03:37
On the mixer, press Menu and select "Remote Control".
03:40
In the devices window select your device and use the access control switches to giver your device the desired access.
03:48
Alright. And now we should have our device fully connected to the mixer and ready to take control.
03:55
In the next video we'll cover the next steps to using your device to successfully control your mixer remotely.
04:03
Move on to the next video when you're ready.
