  • The Big Exam


    WELCOME TO THE BIG EXAM!

    (We could have named it something else, but we know this is what you’ll call it anyway)

    If you’re ready to truly prove your programming skills, you’re in the right place. The Big Exam puts you in the shoes of an engineer who has taken over a partially-completed design from your predecessor. Some sections of the design are already finished, others are broken, and a few haven’t even been started at all. You’ll need to demonstrate your mastery of control components, the Block Controller, and Lua scripting in order to complete the scope of work.

    Successful completion of the Big Exam will earn you the Control & UCI Milestone Credential, the highest certification currently available from Q-SYS. These bragging rights will let your friends (and clients) know you’re one of the most elite Q-SYS programmers in town. Bonus points if you get a tattoo of your new badge.

    Please note:

    1. Average completion times for the Big Exam range from 10-16 hours, but your time may vary significantly depending on your comfort with the skills being tested. Plan some serious focus-time to work on it. Like we said, it’s Big. 
    2. There are no Office Hours or assistance available on this exam, and the feedback you receive from your grader will simply inform you of sections that fail to fulfill the scope of work. You will not receive any suggestion of how to correct these issues.
    3. This exam employs multiple methods of testing for design authenticity. Any suspicion that the design is not wholly original will be met with great prejudice.
    4. As there is no new instruction tied to this exam, it is not eligible for AVIXA RU credits.

    If this sound daunting, keep in mind this exam is not mandatory after completing your previous Control & UCI courses. Each of those courses has its own certificate of completion already. The Big Exam is an additional step that applies your skills in more complex scenarios. It is intended for the bold, the brave, and the syntax warriors.
