00:07
Hi, my name is Patrick Heyn,
00:09
And I’m Nate Makaryk, and welcome to the MP-M Series video training course!
00:14
In this video series, we are going to familiarize you with everything you need to know
00:18
in order to configure the QSC MP-M Series Music and Paging Mixer
00:22
and all of the available end user control options.
00:25
The MP-M Series, part of QSC’s Premium Business Music Solution,
00:29
manages background and foreground audio for hospitality and retail installations that need routing,
00:34
processing, and paging functionality while also providing support for modest live mixing needs,
00:40
presentations, panel discussions, or smaller performance acts.
00:44
A Zone Mixer like the MP-M basically provides input to output routing,
00:49
so that any of your multiple sources can be delivered to any of your multiple zones.
00:55
It also offers a mixer that make a custom mix of your sources,
00:59
to be used as an additional source option for the output zones.
01:03
On top of this, it provides input processing to ensure that your inputs are behaving correctly,
01:09
and output processing is also available to maximize the sonic performance of the loudspeakers in each zone.
01:15
These 1-RU zone mixers come in two models.
01:19
The MP-M40 has 8 total inputs split between 4 mic/line Euroblocks and 4 mono-summed RCA pairs
01:26
while the MP-M80 has 16 total inputs, split evenly in the same manner.
01:32
The MPM-40 has a total of 6 outputs,
01:35
represented by 4 Euroblocks for your zones and 1 output to feed a Music on Hold input to your telephone system.
01:42
t also has a handy cue bus output on the front of the mixer
01:46
to preview signals with headphones without sending them to live loudspeakers.
01:50
The MPM-80 has the same Music on Hold and cue bus outputs, but adds 4 outputs to handle 8 zones in total.
01:58
To access some of the cooler features of the mixer, we need to look at its configuration tool.
02:03
If we open the MP Install configuration app,
02:05
you’ll see that that there is plenty of processing horsepower available for every input and output channel,
02:10
including 4-band parametric EQ, filters, compression, automatic gain control and gating on inputs,
02:18
and a 1/3 octave graphic EQ, 12-band anti-feedback variable notch filters,
02:23
loudness EQ, and limiting on the outputs.
02:26
Ducking automatically manages paging and priority sources per zone
02:30
while presets can be saved from or applied to any input or output individually.
02:36
Presets are included for QSC loudspeaker factory tunings
02:40
ensuring proper voicing and response from the get-go.
02:43
Both models also feature built-in test signals, a real-time analyzer,
02:48
USB audio file player, and a multi-effects processor.
02:52
QSC is no stranger to the mixer business,
02:55
and hardcore QSC fans might recognize the look and feel of MP Install from the QSC TouchMix Series.
03:01
Much like TouchMix, MP Install lets you configure the system’s audio processing, zones,
03:06
and paging options with an easy-to-use network connected app.
03:10
You can do so using a Windows PC,
03:12
which is really useful when doing pre-configuration work prior to getting on the job site.
03:17
Then, when you get on the job site and need to roam around your install while tuning the system,
03:21
you can switch to our wireless tablet version of MP Install for iOS or Android.
03:26
Information about these free apps is available on our website.
03:29
On the control side, MP Series offers two great options that you can offer to end users.
03:35
If you are looking for an installed option, the MP-MFC, or multi-function controller,
03:41
is a simple wall controller with a graphical display that gives end users control over volume settings,
03:48
source selection, and scene recall.
03:51
These connect directly to the MP-M
03:53
and you can even daisy chain as many as 4 MP-MFC controllers on each line
03:58
for a total of 8 MFC controllers per mixer.
04:01
We’ll show you how to configure these using MP Install in later videos.
04:06
If you are looking for a more robust and fully-featured mobile option,
04:10
the other end user control option is the MP Manage app.
04:14
This app can be configured to give as much, or as little control over the system as is necessary,
04:19
and the system even lets you configure multiple user profiles with unique access settings.
04:25
Like everything else, access is configured with the MP Install app.
04:30
Speaking of which, let’s open MP Install and do a quick overview of its navigation.
04:35
Now don't worry, subsequent videos will breakdown individual areas of this app.
04:39
On the right side of the app, you’ll see a navigation and control pane that will always be present.
04:45
Beneath the QSC logo you’ll see five navigation options that direct you to the five main areas of the app:
04:52
Inputs, Outputs, Mixer, Setup Wizard, and Menu.
04:58
Beneath this, you see some basic tools:
05:01
The Cue Level lets you adjust the gain going to the Cue output
05:04
located on the front of the MP-M processor for your headphones.
05:08
Copy and Paste will let you duplicate settings between like functions,
05:12
and Previous and Next will help you navigate between highlighted controls on screen.
05:17
Nudge up and Nudge down will adjust the currently selected control, while Zero will reset it to its default,
05:23
and you can toggle Fine on to give the Nudge buttons a more granular adjustment.
05:29
Finally, at the bottom you see the device to which you are currently connected,
05:33
which you can change by selecting the name and finding your device on the network.
05:38
We’ll spend the next few videos looking specifically at all the functions available in these five tabs,
05:43
but before we do that I want to point you to the Setup Wizard.
05:47
The Setup Wizard was designed to help guide you through the process of configuring your system.
05:51
Now let’s talk briefly about Wizards.
05:55
Finally!!!
05:56
Some Wizards are all-powerful and use their magic to perform impossible tasks,
06:02
while other Wizards are wise old men who point you in the right direction
06:06
and encourage you to learn for yourself.
06:08
Our Setup Wizard is the second type of Wizard.
06:11
Like it or not,
06:12
there’s just no magic wand we can wave
06:14
that will make this device automatically configure itself the way you want it -
06:17
– you’re going to have to do the work.
06:19
But, the Setup Wizard is a wise old man to show you the path.
06:23
Each of these buttons are simply hotlinks that jump you to another place in the software –
06:29
– like I said, there’s no real magic here.
06:31
But if you follow this suggested path, and check off your progress as you go,
06:36
you’ll be able to setup your system in no time.
06:39
In the next videos, we’ll follow the path of this Setup Wizard as he guides us through a sample installation.
06:44
If you have your app ready and you want to follow along,
06:47
we'll be configuring a system in the next video.
06:50
Thanks for watching.
