Introduction to Q-SYS Level 1 Cinema Training

Video Transcript

00:07
Hello and welcome to Q-Sys Level One Cinema Training. My name is Patrick Heyn …
00:12
and my name is Nathan Makaryk,
00:13
and we’ll be your course instructors throughout this introduction to Q-SYS and the Q-SYS Designer Software.
00:18
This course is specifically constructed for Cinema engineers
00:22
who want to learn how to use Q-SYS in their cinema auditoriums.
00:26
This training course is designed
00:28
to get you qualified to build a networked cinema system using the QSC Ecosystem.
00:33
Much of the material is shared with the standard Q-SYS Level One training,
00:37
but you’ll also learn about some specific peripherals and components that are exclusive to the Cinema world.
00:43
The training will be broken into modules that focus on various concepts or processes.
00:48
And each module will involve watching several short videos,
00:52
and then passing an online assessment that tests your knowledge of those videos.
00:57
After you have passed the assessments for all of the individual modules, you’ll be ready for the final exam,
01:02
in which you will modify a functional Cinema Sample Design file based on specifications that we provide.
01:07
You’ll submit your design to us for review,
01:10
and if you pass then you will receive your Q-SYS Level One for Cinema Certificate.
01:14
Also, the Q-SYS Ecosystem is constantly evolving and improving,
01:18
and so Q-SYS Designer software is going to be constantly evolving.
01:22
We try to keep this training course up to date,
01:24
but, of course, from time to time you may find
01:27
that the software is a little different than you see in the video.
01:30
Similarly, from time to time Patrick and I might look mysteriously younger or older –
01:35
not just in different videos, but sometimes in the same video!
01:38
Don’t freak out, that just means we’re keeping things up to date.
01:41
You should download the latest version of Q-SYS Designer Software and keep it open while watching each video.
01:48
Follow along with us and learn as you go.
01:50
The software is made to be simple and intuitive, but watching the videos is no substitute for doing it yourself.
01:57
We know that this kind of training can traditionally be a little … dry - BORING
02:03
so we’re going to do our best to keep things as light and entertaining as possible.
02:08
In return, you have to promise not to be a big ol’ cheater.
02:13
You see, this training course is worth InfoComm CTS credits,
02:17
and some people might think they can fly through this material for some quick credits.
02:25
Well we ought to warn you that if you fail any assessment three times in a row,
02:32
you will be locked out
02:34
until you contact us and we have to reset it for you.
02:38
And furthermore, if you’re working on your design with someone else in your company
02:43
and you just decide to just copy and paste parts of their design and put it in yours and call it your own
02:51
we can tell.
02:52
If we even suspect that any part of your final design isn’t your own,
02:57
we’ll ask you to submit a new design
03:01
and this new design will be based on a far more difficult system spec, ALRIGHT?
03:07
Okay good!
03:08
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
03:12
We respond to every e-mail
03:13
and we love getting feedback because we’re always working to improve this course.
03:17
Our goal is to get you certified, and we’re eager to help. So let’s get started.
03:23
You can take the modules in any order, but you should really start with the first one – Hardware Overview,
03:28
which will teach you about all the physical devices that are involved in a Q-Sys system,
03:32
and then the second module will show you how to navigate the Designer software.
03:36
Before you begin, it’s time to take your first assessment, based on the video you’re watching right now.
03:41
It’s only five questions long, but you'll have to get every single question right in order to start your training.
03:46
If you fail on this test, you’ll have to e-mail us and ask for forgiveness in order to try again.
03:51
Good luck, and we look forward to seeing your submission soon.
