00:05
Hi everyone, Chris here from QSC.
00:08
In this video we are going to give you a basic overview of the KS118 Active Subwoofer.
00:13
The KS118 is the largest offering in the KS Series of active subwoofers.
00:17
This sub features a single tour-grade, long excursion, direct radiating 18-inch driver,
00:23
housed in a rugged Birch plywood enclosure.
00:26
The built-in Class D amplifier module provides 3600 watts of peak power
00:31
to drive the woofer to optimal performance at a peak SPL of 136 dB.
00:37
With on-board, powerful DSP,
00:39
the KS118 is perfect for users looking for a commanding and powerful low-frequency reinforcement solution.
00:46
Let’s go ahead and take a look at the back panel and walk through the features of the KS118.
00:50
Like our other KS Series subwoofer models, the KS118 includes two input connections for line-level sources.
00:57
Using both inputs allows a stereo connection
01:00
from separate left and right top boxes to be made to a single subwoofer.
01:04
Alternatively, you could connect the Main left and right outputs from your mixer to the KS118 first,
01:10
and run the signal out to the Left and Right top boxes using the parallel Thru outputs.
01:15
It makes no difference to the performance, which one you connect first.
01:18
One option may be more suited to your setup based on the physical location of your mixer.
01:22
If a mono connection is made, such as from a mixer Aux output, only one input is needed.
01:27
In a setup using multiple subwoofers,
01:29
the parallel outputs can also be used to daisy chain them together.
01:33
The KS118 also offers a number of DSP features,
01:36
which can be accessed, configured and recalled using the onboard LED screen and navigation controls.
01:43
To access the DSP menu,
01:45
use the rotary control to navigate through the menu and press the "Enter" button to select.
01:50
First, a selectable 80 or 100 Hz crossover
01:53
is available for you to match the crossover frequency of the top loudspeakers you are using in your PA system.
01:58
Next, up to 100 ms of onboard delay can be adjusted and viewed in seconds, meters or feet.
02:07
The DEEP™ mode extends the KS118’s low-frequency response down to 33 Hz,
02:12
optimizing it for electronic or pop music.
02:15
While the Cardioid preset allows for the configuration of a cardioid subwoofer array
02:20
when two or three KS118 subwoofers are used.
02:24
For more information about that feature, check out our Cardioid Subwoofer Video video.
02:28
You can find a link to that in the description below.
02:30
The last option in the menu is the setting section.
02:34
Within ‘Settings’ you have options to recall and save up to 5 custom scenes
02:38
for your most commonly-used applications.
02:41
You can also adjust the state of the Front LED,
02:45
change the contrast of the back panel navigation screen
02:49
and finally, you can reset all subwoofer’s parameters to the default factory settings.
02:54
The subwoofer enclosure includes four heavy-duty, low-noise casters
02:58
for easy transportation
03:01
as well as a threaded, M20 gauge pole receiver
03:04
for deploying a top loudspeaker in a vertical orientation.
03:10
16, 26, and 36 inch pole accessories are available separately,
03:14
to customize your sub and top box deployment.
03:17
The enclosure also includes eight slip-resistant feet and alignment cups
03:21
for stacking the subwoofers in either a vertical or horizontal orientation.
03:26
For protection during transport, a transport cover with reinforced grille protection is available
03:31
to keep your subwoofer looking great after being moved to and from the venue.
03:35
The KS118 is a commanding and powerful addition to any portable or installed PA system,
03:41
giving your sound the clear, dynamic low-end power you’re looking for.
