Hi everybody, it's Chris here from QSC.
00:09
In this video we're gonna have a look at the Speech Contour on the CP Loudspeaker Series.
00:13
Not only is the CP series great for music playback and live sound,
00:17
it also performs extremely well in speech applications.
00:20
If you're addressing a small crowd, leading a gathering,
00:23
holding a town hall meeting or simply making a quick announcement,
00:27
CP Series has got you covered.
00:29
All you need is a microphone,
00:30
cable,
00:31
and your CP loudspeaker.
00:32
If you were to take a typical loudspeaker without this setting and connect a microphone directly to it,
00:37
it would be immediately prone to feedback once you apply a moderate amount of gain,
00:41
so you'd have to stand far away and behind it
00:43
to keep you and your audience from being subjected to those annoying sounds.
00:47
To fix this,
00:48
people will typically add a small mixer and try to EQ problem frequencies out the mic input,
00:53
but that's extra equipment you'd have to connect and try to get set up quickly.
00:57
Here's how the Speech Contour eliminates all of those problems.
01:00
Let's start by plugging a microphone into our MIC/LINE input B.
01:05
For this demonstration,
01:06
we're going to use a standard dynamic handheld microphone.
01:10
If you want to use a headset mic,
01:11
that's fine too.
01:12
This setting is optimized to give great stability for both options.
01:16
A typical handheld mic also needs an input signal boost
01:19
to be able to reach appropriate levels,
01:21
so we have a MIC BOOST switch that applies a +25dB boost to your dynamic microphone.
01:27
If you're using a wireless mic plugged into your CP Series speaker,
01:30
you probably won't need to use that boost
01:32
because the receiver will be sending a line-level signal.
01:34
Select the “Speech” contour on the dial.
01:36
This activates digital signal processing, or DSP,
01:40
that gives clarity and stability to the microphone channel,
01:43
so you get a clean, stable sound,
01:45
with plenty of level without the risk of feedback.
01:48
After that, simply adjust your input gain to set your level and you're done!
01:52
It's important to note that when the speech contour is selected
01:55
only input B is affected.
01:57
Input A remains in the Default contour.
02:00
This is so you can have music playing on inputs A or C
02:03
without that being affected by the speech contour on the microphone channel.
02:07
So you get great sounding music playback and the ability to run a microphone,
02:11
without needing a mixer.
02:14
And, its compact size and light weight make this a portable and effective solution
02:18
that's easy to setup in no time at all.
02:20
Now, if you'll excuse me- I have an announcement to make.
02:23
Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time.
