Feature License Activation

Video Transcript

00:08
With the introduction of Core Manager in Q-SYS Designer 8.0 or higher,
00:12
the process for installing the licenses for features such as UCI Deployment
00:16
and Lua Scripting to a Q-SYS Core has changed a little bit.
00:19
You’ll still need to start by purchasing the licenses you need from a QSC sales representative,
00:23
so no changes there.
00:24
Once you’ve purchased your licenses,
00:26
you’ll receive an email that contains your Entitlement ID – or EID.
00:31
You’ll need this to activate the licenses on your Core or Cores.
00:35
A single EID is assigned to each purchase, and can cover multiple licenses.
00:40
Each license from a single EID can be deployed on a different Core.
00:44
The email also contains a link to written instructions on how to install your licenses if you need them
00:50
– but you’ve started this video already, so stay with me, Goose.
00:53
In this example, my email contains a single EID that is good for three of each type of license.
01:01
There are actually two different methods with which to install a license, online and offline.
01:06
Let’s start with the online method.
01:08
This is, by far the simplest and most commonly used way to install a license.
01:12
It requires that your Core has access to the internet.
01:15
Let’s start by connecting to my first Core using Core Manager.
01:19
To do this, I’m going to select the Licensing tab.
01:22
Here you can see whether or not your Core is able to communicate with the QSC Licensing Server.
01:28
If this icon is green, you can proceed with the online method.
01:32
As we can see, there are currently no licenses installed on this Core.
01:36
Let’s fix that.
01:38
I simply copy the EID from my email and paste it into this field here, then hit Activate.
01:44
Now I’m shown a list of the licenses still available via my EID:
01:49
in this instance all three of my Total UCI and Scripting Licenses are available.
01:54
I’m going to select both types of license, and hit Install, and that’s it, I'm done.
02:01
This Core is now good to go for both UCI Deployment and Q-SYS control via scripting.
02:07
Ok, so that covers license installation for Cores that can connect to the internet,
02:11
but what about if your Core is not able to connect to the internet?
02:14
Well, first off, we’d recommend that you use the online activation process whenever possible,
02:19
just because it’s so simple – and even if a Core is intended to be deployed offline,
02:25
you might consider connecting it to the internet during the commissioning process,
02:28
installing the relevant licenses, and then taking the Core back offline once you’re done.
02:33
However, if that’s not an option, you start by gathering your EID,
02:38
as well as copy and pasting your Core’s Locking ID, which can be found in the Core Manager.
02:44
I’d recommend pasting those into a word doc, because you’ll need both a little bit later.
02:49
Now visit the QSC Licensing Portal, and copy your EID into this field, and hit Sign In.
02:56
Then click on the Licenses tab to see your remaining available licenses on that entitlement–
03:01
in this case, a UCI Deployment license and a Scripting license.
03:05
I’m going to select these Licenses, and hit Activate
03:10
You’ll then copy and paste your Core’s Locking ID into the relevant field, then press Next.
03:16
You can also specify the email address to which my License File should be sent.
03:21
This will auto-populate with the email address associated with the original License purchase,
03:25
but you can change this –
03:27
useful if you’re installing licenses, but somebody else in your organization purchased them.
03:31
In my case, however, the email address is correct, so I’ll just hit Activate.
03:36
I’ll receive an email almost instantaneously, and that email will have a License File attached.
03:43
This is a raw text file, named Lservc underscore and then my Core’s Locking ID.
03:49
I’m going to save that to my Desktop.
03:52
Now, I go back to Core Manager, and select Upload License File.
03:57
I select my License File, and, once that’s uploaded, I hit Activate, and my licenses are installed.
04:03
So, that’s it – license activation made easy in Core Manager.
