Hi! I'm Jason, and I'll be the new face of Touchmix Training.
0:15
One of the coolest features about the TouchMix is the ability to control your mixer wirelessly using an
0:20
iOS or Android device, to either mix away from the console itself, give monitor mixes to the band, or
0:27
just add a second control screen to your mixing setup.
0:30
But when you are running your TouchMix in large spaces with big crowds, you are bound to
0:34
encounter lots of interference from other Wifi in the room, cell phone interference, competing radio
0:39
frequencies, you name it.
0:42
In these cases, we always recommend using an external Wifi router instead.
0:46
In this video we will show you how to easily configure your TouchMix with your new 3rd party router.
0:51
Here is what you’ll need to get started.
0:53
Your TouchMix, a standard Wi-Fi router and an Ethernet cable.
0:57
If you are using a TouchMix 8 or 16, you’ll also need a USB-to-Ethernet adapter to bridge
1:01
the Ethernet cable to the available USB port as these models do not have an active Ethernet port. You
1:07
can find a list of recommended adaptors on the QSC website. Make sure to unplug that dongle before you begin!
1:13
I’ll be doing this demonstration on the TouchMix-30 Pro, which has a built-in Ethernet port.
1:18
First, open up and your new router.
1:20
Many routers will work properly right out of the box. If your router requires initial setup, proceed
1:25
according to the manufacturer’s directions.
1:28
A lot of the Wi-Fi connection problems reported by TouchMix users are related to non-standard or
1:32
custom configurations of the router. Unless you are a networking wizard, which I am definitely not,
1:38
We strongly recommend that you leave router settings at their default values. And if you are using an
1:42
existing wifi router that’s not fresh out of the box, it’s best to reset that router, just to make sure you
1:48
have cleared any unsavory custom setting.
1:50
Once you’ve completely unpackaged your router- plug it in and power it on.
1:54
Once it’s powered up- plug your Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports on your router and connect
1:59
the other end to the Ethernet port on the TouchMix.
2:02
Do not, I REPEAT, do not use the “Internet” or “Network” port. This port is expecting a connection
2:08
from a modem to gain access to the internet. That’s not what we’re doing here. This is the number
2:12
one problem that we solve in TouchMix support land, so don’t do it!
2:16
For our connection, all we need is simple device to device communication.
2:20
Now plug in and power up your TouchMix 30.
2:23
Once the mixer has fully powered up, press the “Menu” button and go to Network setup.
2:28
Select “Wired” for the network type, and “Auto IP Address (DHCP)” for the Wired Network Setting,
2:33
then press “Apply”.
2:35
Once a successful connection has been established with the router, you will get a prompt that says,
2:39
“Wired Ethernet connection operational,” and the “Connection Status” on the Network setup screen
2:44
should read “Connected.” So far, so good?
2:47
Now on your iOS or Android device- Open the Wi-Fi settings and connect to your router. From the
2:51
factory, most Wi-Fi routers will have a unique network name and password, which you can usually
2:56
find either on a sticker on the router itself, or in the user manual.
3:00
Once connected to the router on your device, launch the QSC TouchMix app.
3:04
If the app shows “Disconnected” in red in the upper right hand corner, press the “Menu” button, go
3:09
to “Network” and select your mixer from the “Found Mixers” list and press “Select.”
3:13
The last step is to give your device remote access permission. On the mixer press “Menu” and select
3:19
“Remote Control”. In the “Devices” window select your device and use the “Access Control” switches
3:24
to give your device the desired access.
3:28
Pretty simple, right? Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next time.
