Space Manager

Monitoring a single Q-SYS system with Reflect that sits in a single room is a piece of cake.
00:12
But the more Q-SYS systems you manage with Reflect, and the more spread out those geography span,
00:18
the more important it becomes to organize these systems, and more specifically to create spatial and contextual awareness of where these systems sit in the physical world.
00:29
That's where Space Manager comes in.
00:31
It lets you create foundational hierarchy relationships of Spaces, and even lets you visualize where in the world they are.
00:38
Let's take a look at that.
00:40
Today we're gonna work on our movie Town Studios domain.
00:44
Let's imagine we have several systems that are physically located in two different headquarters, Hollywood, California, and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
00:53
Each headquarters has a building with multiple AV systems, and in some cases a single system will run multiple rooms that span multiple floors.
01:03
We want Reflect to represent where these systems are not just in the world, but also within their respective buildings.
01:11
We'll start by logging into Reflect where I can see all of the domains that are registered under my account.
01:18
Let's click into Movie Town Studios.
01:21
Here I can see the four systems, and while I might've thought it was a great idea at the time to name them after some of our greatest hits,
01:29
they don't give me or anyone else any indication of where they are geographically.
01:35
We can solve that with Space Manager back in our Reflect dashboard.
01:40
Let's click on Space Manager to start to create some hierarchy.
01:44
When I click create, we're offered a list of baseline location indicators, region site, building or outdoor Space.
01:53
At this point, you can decide how granular of detail you want to give yourself.
01:57
So we're gonna go deep.
01:59
Let's start by adding a region, we'll call it North America.
02:03
Once we've done that, your region populates below and you can begin to nest.
02:07
Additional categories we'll use, create a few more times and add a building one for our Hollywood hq and another for indiana hq.
02:20
Then let's add some floors to our Indiana HQ by clicking Create Then Level and we'll call it floor one.
02:30
Then on floor one, we'll add our meeting rooms.
02:34
Let's call it meeting room one and meeting room two.
02:39
Back on the left side pane of Space Manager.
02:42
You can see the hierarchy.
02:43
We've created Region building floor meeting room.
02:48
Let's add another floor and another meeting room just to fill this out.
02:51
Now that we have our hierarchy map of one of our buildings, we can start assigning systems.
02:57
When I click on meeting room one, I'm presented with an area that will allow me to assign an unassigned system in my domain to this Space.
03:08
I know that meeting room one is being driven by Raiders core.
03:13
The moment that this is assigned, that core status will populate in this area and lucky me, it's looking good.
03:20
No errors.
03:21
So let's do one more.
03:22
I'll go into meeting room two.
03:24
I'll assign it to last crusade.
03:30
Oh, this system data is registering a fault, and if I look at the Space hierarchy, I can see that not only is this meeting room two showing an ominous X, but the whole floor is listed as a fault.
03:43
Now this makes sense because you as the administrator, want a bird's eye view of what's going on in your system so that you can draw a hypothesis based on proximity.
03:53
For example, if I notice that meeting room three and meeting room four are both listed as offline, I can
04:01
see they're both on the same floor, and that might indicate some kind of common denominator in my issue.
04:07
Maybe I wanna check if they share a common network switch, for example, that's experiencing some kind of issue.
04:13
Now that I have relational data flowing, I'm gonna go back and add geography into the mix.
04:18
When I click on one of the HQ buildings, I can go to the location area in the rightmost panel.
04:24
I'll click on the pencil tool, and now I can enter the street address of my location.
04:31
Click save.
04:33
This will allow me to see all of my locations on a map, view of Space manager.
04:37
I can hover over any of my locations to get a collective health of the building, or I can get quick, instant access to all of my meeting rooms by floor.
04:47
Or I can even filter to only show systems that are experiencing faults.
04:51
All right.
04:52
Spoiler alert, Space Manager is definitely one of those foundational Reflect technologies for which a lot of current analysis tools and future analysis tools will be built.
05:02
So don't skip this step when you're setting up your next system with because if you do the work ahead of time, you will have chosen why Sunny?
05:14
Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time.
